Introduction:
This Mod allows you to create ?Static Menus? in what I call a magazine styile - table of contents format.
It allows you to create documents that both the image file <a href> and the ?Read More..? point to a link you enter when you add a new headline. By default you can leave the LINK field blank ? and no links will be generated and the content becomes more of a ?news entry?. This module does not drill down to additional menus - so it is flat by design. I wanted something that I could put in content and not have to drill down to "read more" so as a result I implemented this to use RichText. I designed this MOD to overcome the less than flashy method of how the CSK generates menus. Based on the Books Module provided in the CSK.
Sample: http://wbcb.com my main home page is using this mod.
Many uses ? will post more on my site about possibilities at a later time. This is Version 1.0.
NOTICE: There is a requirement for entering a Start and END Publication Date. Currently that feature is not implemented in this version. Upcoming version will include the ability to set when the document gets shown on your site and when it should expire automatically.
Steps:
? BACK-UP EVERYTHING!
? Unzip the headlines.zip file.
? Copy the Community files over to yours. No CSK files are overwritten.
? Compile
? Run the SQL Script in the database folder
? Go Into Community_PageTypes and verify that ?Headlines SECTION? has ?pageType_IsSectionType? and ?pageType_isParent? have values of ?1?
? Add the css entries in the .css file to your default.css
? IIS Reset
Go into Admin Tools and add a new ?Headlines Section? and play around. The only theme I used is the Default Theme ? so if you are looking to customize ? you will find the appropriate files under:
\CommunityStarterKit\Communities\Common\Themes\Default\Skins\ContentSkins
filenames: headlines*
Actual Module is found:
\CommunityStarterKit\Engine\Modules\Headlines
Tested out on my staging site and this module is implemented on my own website.
Use at your own risk naturally.
